A message from FAB Radio Folk DJ

TONY HAYNES

In over 50 years of broadcasting folk music, I have been to many festivals, but the GNFF is something very special.
Set in a remote green valley in the North York Moors, it hovers somewhere between mainstream and fringe. It is the friendliest festival I have ever been to, and whilst there we are always conscious that we are guests at this special  village.
The GNFF is the best kept festival secret on the UK festival scene.
Damn! Now I've let the cat out of the bag! (No cats were harmed in the making of this post).

Tony Haynes

Radio Presenter - FAB Radio

We will be delighted to WELCOME you to BOTTON VILLAGE for GREAT NORTH 26 , a friendly gathering for all who enjoy great acoustic music in an intimate atmosphere.

There'll be concerts in the fabulous JOAN OF ARC HALL. Artists love to play here and I know they are all looking forward to meeting and performing  for you.

In the FOYER area you will find the Bar where we sell a range of locally brewed ales and other refreshments. Its also the venue for FOYER FOLK where artists perform in an informal environment.

Across the entrance lobby and into the LIBRARY is where we have our Singarounds, Meet the Artists, Acoustic  Performances, Poetry , a Tune and a Song Sessions, The Festival Folk Club etc.

ST.BRIDES is a small comfortable acoustic venue for workshops, small concerts and the song writing competition. Its just a few minutes walk away from the festival centre in Joan of Arc Hall.

There'll be a variety of freshly cooked hot and cold foods on sale in The Foyer, the Entrance Hall and around the main entrance and the bar.

We welcome traders and stall holders. If you're interested please contact us through this website.

A Good Pint of Ale on Tap!

Meet our Festival Beers

Our Real Ale Bar this weekend at Great North Folk Festival features some excellent ales from  the local Whitby Brewery with whom we've enjoyed a good relationship over many years. Starting with Folk at the Brewery and the Fish and Ships Festival and for more than 10 years at Great North in Botton Village.
This years offer of Four beers includes the all time favourite WHITBY WHALER, described as a fruity bitter with a malty, citrus flavour and a not too intense bitter finish. The combination of both East Kent and Styrian Golding hops giving it a pleasant fruity full flavour. This beer should be quaffed heartily.
SALTWICK NAB a full bodied ruby ale with a pleasantly fruity finish. A generous helping of crystal malt adds body, filling out the fruitiness of the Aurora and East Kent Golding hops and rounding off this well balanced dark mild.
IPA A delightfully hoppy ale with strong notes of passion fruit and grapefruit. The generous use of New World hops makes this a bright and refreshing IPA that should appeal to the most discerning hop-heads.
JET BLACK A finely balanced porter packed with liquorice, coffee and sweet toffee. A deliciously creamy mouth feel and the generous use of Roasted Barley and Chocolate Malt makes drinking Jet Black porter a truly luxurious experience.
The Bar also serves coffee, tea and a variety of alcohol free drinks.
The Bar is run by our volunteers ,the affable poet writer Boathook Bald and Hadden Grainger who are ready to serve you throughout the festival.
You're going to need all the help you can get to quench your thirst this weekend, by all accounts.
